Research and Monitoring

WILDCONSCIENCE specializes in the design and implementation of baseline research and monitoring programs for terrestrial and marine flora and fauna. Survey design is an essential component of population parameter estimation. Population parameter estimates, such as occupancy and abundance, are essential for the integration of management-based research and monitoring; and these parameter estimates can be derived using a variety of methods such as distance sampling, repeated counts, and capture-mark-recapture. Geographic information systems and telemetry are also important tools used to provide baseline information about spatial distribution, resource use and availability, and demographic rates to better understand population dynamics.

Rapid Population and Habitat Assessments

Rapid population and habitat assessments are conducted using a variety of designs (e.g., before-after-control-impact) and methods (e.g., line-transect vegetation sampling) to measure the impact of natural and anthropogenic disturbances. These assessments are targeted to answer specific questions (or concerns), inform management decisions, evaluate the success or failure of actions taken, and provide the necessary feedback to improve decisions and actions in an iterative (adaptive) manner.

Research Questions

In direct collaboration and with the participation of staff from partner organizations, we can develop and implement a structured decision making process that uses the best information available to identify the problem and need, define specific objectives and options, and establish criteria (methodology) needed to determine if the specified objectives have been met. To this end, the staff of WILDCONSCIENCE is invested in the integration of research and monitoring to inform and guide management.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The staff of WILDCONSCIENCE can assist your organization with the use of GIS tools and applications to to collect, analyze, and combine several types of georeferenced (spatially explicit) data to inform and guide management. Our staff can also provide hands-on training through workshops, providing classroom and fieldwork experience.

Baseline Research and Monitoring

Depending on the problem and need, the staff of WILDCONSCIENCE can assists your organization with the design and conduct of baseline research and monitoring, including biological inventories, surveys, and other data needed to estimate population parameters, model population dynamics, and assess risk extinction and population viability in the face of conservation threats.

Publishing in Scientific Journals

One of the best ways to have your organization recognized internationally is to have your management and conservation efforts published on scientific journals. The staff of WILDCONSCIENCE can assist you on the whole publication process, including the presentation of results in professional meetings and to the general public.

Citizen Science

If carried out properly, citizen science can give your organization answers to important management questions, and provide a powerful conservation education and awareness tool for the general public. The staff of WILDCONSCIENCE has ample experience with the development and conduct of Citizen Science projects.
